Aditya-L1: Unveiling the Sun's Secrets - ISRO's Maiden Solar Mission

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has always been at the forefront of space exploration, consistently pushing boundaries and making groundbreaking advancements. After the successful launch of CHANDRAYAAN-3 ISRO is aiming towards their most ambitious and exciting project, Aditya-L1 mission, aimed at studying the Sun, our nearest star, like never before.ISRO Aditya L1 Mission Budget is Rs 400 Crore for which it started working from December 2019.

"Most likely the launch will take place on September 2 ", an ISRO official said as quoted by the news agency PTI. 

The primary objectives of the Aditya-L1 mission are:

  • Investigating Solar Wind
  • Mapping the Sun's Magnetic Fields
  • Studying Sun-Earth Connection
  • Key Instruments on Aditya-L1

The Aditya-L1 satellite will be equipped with a suite of advanced instruments designed to capture a comprehensive range of solar observations. 

Some of the key instruments include:

  • Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC): VELC will image the solar corona in visible light and examine its dynamics, helping scientists understand the processes that heat the corona to temperatures higher than the Sun's surface.
  • Plasma Analyser Package for Aditya (PAPA): PAPA aims to study the properties of solar wind, including its composition and speed. This data is crucial for improving space weather forecasts.
  • Aditya Solar Wind Particle Experiment (ASPEX): ASPEX will measure the variation of solar wind properties, allowing scientists to study its origin and acceleration mechanisms.
  • Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT): SUIT will provide high-resolution images of the Sun in the ultraviolet range, helping researchers analyze the dynamics of its chromosphere and transition region.
